Tillandsia – Air Plants & Bromeliads

Tillandsia – Air Plants & Bromeliads

Tillandsia, commonly called Air Plants, are a tropical group of plants in the family Bromeliaceae. These perennial flowering plants primarily grow in trees (Epiphytes), but there are also some species that will grow in soil. They prefer warm, humid, environments with temperature between 65 – 85 degrees. Like Bromeliads, their roots act as an anchor and they will absorb the nutrients they need through their leaves by way of rain water, organic matter, and fertilizing in cultivation. Spanish Moss is actually a species of Tillansdia that forms long chains, and eventually groups of tiny plants that cascade down from the trees limbs. This versatile group of plants is perfect for mounting on backgrounds or tree limbs in a terrarium. Adding great texture and an immediate sense of “age” to the terrarium, like it has been setup for years!
